Race Around Poland – Krzysztof Spring Takes on Another Ultra-Cycling Challenge

Very soon, Krzysztof Spring, Operations Director CEE, will embark on his next sporting challenge. He will be competing in Race Around Poland (RAP), one of the qualifying events for the UltraCycling World Championships, organized by the World UltraCycling Association (WUCA). Just a few days before the race begins on Saturday, June 27, in Warsaw, we managed to convince Krzysztof to sit down with us for a short interview.

Race Around Poland 2026 marks the sixth edition of the event. Riders will tackle a 3,600 km route – the flagship distance of this year's race, although several shorter options are also available. This year, the starting list includes 100 riders from 12 countries. In the premier 3,600 km “Solo Unsupported” category, in which Krzysztof will compete, there are 58 registered participants.

Krzysztof, another cycling challenge lies ahead of you – perhaps your biggest one yet?

Absolutely. I'm really excited to have the opportunity to test myself in this race. Although it's called a race, I don't think it's really about competing against others. For me, it's another step towards something I've had in mind for quite some time. But for now, my full focus is on Race Around Poland.

How has your preparation been?

I've done everything I could to prepare as well as possible. I've completed several training camps in Spain, Croatia, and Poland. I've spent plenty of time in the saddle, and I've been preparing for this event for quite a long time. Now it's time to recover and make sure the bike is fully ready.

You're competing in the highest category – Solo Unsupported – over 3,600 km. Tell us more about it.

Yes, it's the premier distance, and it's in this category that the Ultra-Cycling World Championship medals will be awarded. The idea is simple: throughout the entire race, the rider is completely self-supported. No mobile assistance is allowed. Everything I'll need – accommodation, food, and anything else – I'll have to arrange myself.

We remember that just over a year ago you organized the Rotom Tour of Europe and rode more than 3,000 km solo from Portugal to Poland. Will RAP be a similar challenge?

In some ways, yes, but there are several important differences. During my ride from Portugal to Poland, I had to carry absolutely everything I needed with me, which made the bike much heavier. This time, the organizers provide designated checkpoints where riders can collect pre-prepared personal supplies, such as spare clothing, power banks, and other essentials. Another major difference is the route itself. During the first few days, Race Around Poland follows Poland's southern border, which means plenty of mountain riding. The total elevation gain throughout the race exceeds 33,000 metres.

What is your goal for this race?

Each of my previous challenges has been another step towards something bigger. It all started with a ride from my home to the seaside and back, followed by longer routes through the Alps, and then last year's journey from Portugal to Poland. I see Race Around Poland in exactly the same way. Of course, I'd like to finish as high in the standings as possible, but my minimum goal is to complete the race within 12 days and qualify for another legendary ultra-cycling event – Race Across America (RAAM) in the United States.

Thank you for your time. We'll all be cheering for you!

Thank you very much. I truly felt your support during the Rotom Tour of Europe, and it meant a lot to me. I hope I'll be able to count on it again this time. We can do it! #TeamRotom
